Miranda Lambert On Carrie Underwood: She Deserves Entertainer Of The Year
Miranda Lambert posted to Instagram a few weeks ago that she’d like to see Carrie Underwood take the top honor of Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards this year.
Miranda told us about sending out that support for her friend, “Carrie and I started together and she’s great. When I was talking about Carrie on my post, I had just been like bubbling up for a couple of weeks. I’m on an all female tour and she’s on an all female tour. I was literally pulling on my rhinestone fishnets and spraying my hairspray and making sure everything was in place and straightening my fringe.”
She continued, “And I’m walking into this ladies dressing room and there’s just products and nail polish every year. We really take pride in looking the part in our job. And so I guess that’s what sparked the feeling that I needed to say something. But then I thought, it’s not about gender, it’s about what Entertainer of the Year means to me. I’ve never won. It’s very prestigious and it was a busy year and you have to have a busy year to even get in that category.”
She concludes, “Carrie’s busy year was on a different level. I mean, it was hosting and having a baby and doing Monday Night Football and having Calia by Carrie Underwood empowering women and going on tour. You know what I mean? So if you think about the attention that she draws country music for this year, well, for the last decade, but particularly right now, it just seems like her year with her tour and her record out. It just felt like: girl or not, she deserves it, period.”
Lambert’s new Wild Card album comes out on Friday (11/01).
