“Mama Jane” Harris has been featured countless times on the TV show Carnival Eats. Every year she creates something new for the Florida Strawberry Festival. She then retires it. But Funnel Bacon on a Stick was a game changer and I refused to let it be a one-hit wonder. I bug her every year to make sure that she keeps it on the menu when she comes back to Plant City.

If you’ve never had Funnel Bacon on a Stick, Mama takes a thick strip of bacon and dips it in to a sweet funnel cake batter. She fries it for about a minute and then tops it with powdered sugar with your choice of chocolate, caramel or maple butter. You ONLY should choose that last one. As much as I love caramel and chocolate, that marriage of bacon and maple with the funnel cake… you can’t beat it.

2019 will be the 5th year in a row she’s bringing Funnel Bacon on a Stick back. That’s unprecedented. You don’t have a lot of room in that hot little truck. You’ve got 2 or 3 hard-working employees working the fryers and cash register so real estate is limited. So every year, I beg Mama to bring it back… even though she still introduces something new every year. This year, she’s introducing a black forest funnel cake with strawberry pieces on top.

For those that don't know the history, funnel cake goddess Mama Jane creates something new every year for the Florida...

Along with Fiske Fries, Amish Doughnuts and Strawberry Shortcake, Funnel Bacon on a Stick is the absolute must. Here’s the thing… only ONE truck has it. You’ll find a lot of variations of funnel cakes and fried dough, but you must seek out Mama Jane’s truck if you want the real deal. And this year for QYK listeners, it’ll be easier than ever. Mama Jane used to be set up near the west entrance to the concert stage. This year, she’ll be right next to the 99.5 QYK tent.
