December 3, 2018 Update!
It’s been announced that Blake Shelton will host the broadcast! It’ll air February 17, 2019 locally here in Tampa Bay on Channel 8.
Original story from October 15:
The list of performers paying tribute to Elvis Presley for the 50th anniversary of Elvis’ Comeback Special is really impressive. The special was recorded last week but won’t air until next year on NBC. For country fans like us, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton did songs by The King. From the pop world, Jennifer Lopez, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, Adam Lambert and Shawn Mendes all are said to have performed.
Gwen Stefani performed “Suspicious Minds” according to one tweet. Check out this little Elvis inspired Blake clip!

It’ll be interesting to see how the pop acts put their own spin the Elvis classics. Elvis’ influence seems to never end. There was even a kid on American Idol named Mackenzie Bourg who did a really great modernized version of “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” a few years back. Blew me away when I heard it. The arrangement is very 2018, but doesn’t ruin the vibe of the original song. It was really creative.
The special is hosted by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough. Here’s a classic clip from the original special back in 1968.
