Tampa Bay Rays Look To Buy The Rowdies
Whoa! Does this mean the Rays could stay in St. Pete? It was just reported a few minutes ago that the Tampa Bay Rays have purchased the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The soccer team has a stadium right on the St. Pete waterfront where the Rays wanted to build a new stadium 10 years ago. Channel 10 reports St. Pete city council members and the mayor will meet today.
Where would you like to see the #Rays play?https://t.co/NffUhmGwzx

This purchase would include Al Lang Stadium. There’s always been a question if the money to build a stadium in Ybor City could be found. St. Pete might be able to make it happen. The Tampa Bay Rays season came to an end yesterday, but this will definitely be a hot topic over the next few months.
Social media is already buzzing.
Maybe he wants the land of Al Lang Stadium for a new Rays park. Pinellas has more money to offer the Rays than Hillsborough.

But....the #Rays have to know buying the #Rowdies will stir rumor mills and put pressure on Tampa leaders to cough up more stadium money.

So if Stu is buying the Rowdies, is this back in play for DTSP? #PinellasHasMoney #StPeteRaysburg pic.twitter.com/fzNWzorBjx

Personally, I’m still more on board with the Ybor plan. But if this keeps the Rays in Tampa and keeps the team from moving to a market like Montreal, I’m for it. A few months ago, I addressed a bunch of naysayers on my Facebook page about a Rays stadium in Ybor on my podcast “The Other 59 Minutes.”
