This is a big shock to… no one. No one who lives here anyway. It may generally cost more to live in California or New York. But if you want to insure your home, you’ll pay more in Florida than anywhere else in the nation.

The average annual insurance cost according to financial guru Clark Howard… $6,892. For comparison, where I grew up in Maine… which gets PUMMELED by snow storms, frozen pipes and caved in roofs from snow piling up? $1,276.
The only state that even comes close to what we’re paying is naturally another hurricane alley target: Louisiana.
