Florida Is One Of The Most Haunted States In America
In some states, the spooky stories and hauntings go past October 31st. With Halloween right around the corner, movebuddha.com wanted to find out which state will give you the spooks the most. The “spook score” examines haunting, creepy, and ghostly factors (8 total) across 3 categories, which were scored and ranked. Florida is said to have 20,315 unsolved murders, 3,190 ghost sightings, 4,591 cemeteries, and 328 haunted places.
There are lots of ghost stories all over Florida. St. Augustine has so much (dark) history, like the St. Augustine Lighthouse, where visitors hear giggles of drowned children and glimpse the ghostly keeper, Joseph Andreu, who fell from its 165-foot tower. There are tons of ghost stories across the state, bizarre Florida Man stories, and a haunted doll terrorizing celebrities. All of these reasons and more is why Florida ranked #4 in the most haunted states in America.
Florida’s haunted history runs deep, and so does its number of unsolved murders. Movebuddha recalls a story from South Florida. “Miami’s Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables is marked by the fatal shooting of Gangster Thomas “Fatty” Walsh in 1929. Today, his spirit is said to haunt the 13th floor, mysteriously shaking glasses, slamming doors, and appearing in bathroom mirrors.” But there are rumored to be a lot of hauntings in the Tampa Bay area as well.

Almost Half of Americans Say They Would Live In A Haunted House
With housing prices frighteningly high and considering that Florida ranks #4 in most haunted states, it might be safe to say there are a few haunted houses on the market. So it’s not really a surprise that almost half of Americans (49%) say they would live in a haunted house, but of those 49% who said yes, over half would only do so if you paid them and 1/3 of the “Yes” respondents would live in the house without financial incentives. 4% already believe their home is already haunted!
There are some generational differences when it comes to this question. 63% of Gen Z would live in a haunted house but primarily if you paid them. More than half of millennials (57%) would be happy to finally become homeowners, even if the house came with a few spirits.
