Tampa Bay Bucs Rookies Hilariously Struggle To Identify ’90s Relics
Remember the days of floppy disks, VHS tapes, and catching the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers after school? Well, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookies might not. In a hilarious social media video, these rookies were presented with ’90s memorabilia — stuff that some might call “relics”—and had to guess what they were. The video is captioned, “Times have changed [VHS emoji] [CD emoji] How many did you know?”
Running back Bucky Irving left fans in laughing with his confusion over a VHS tape, while EDGE defender Chris Braswell swooped in with a series of wildly off-the-mark guesses. Born October 25, 2001, Braswell is just a month shy of his 23rd birthday and already an NFL player.
Fans flocked to the comments to share their reactions. “I feel ancient,” one person wrote, complete with crying emojis. Another jokingly added, “Now ask them to read a clock,” poking fun at how many young people today rely on digital clocks. And one person, feeling the weight of nostalgia, said, “I’m 34 but after watching this video, I feel like I’m in my 60s.”
Growing up in the ’90s was a one-of-a-kind experience, and it’s easy to forget how foreign some of those memories are to today’s younger generation. Over on Reddit, someone posed the question: “What are some things you remember doing as a kid in the ’90s that might seem foreign or outdated to today’s youngsters?”
One reply kicked things off with a classic: “Listening to the radio, ready to press record when my favorite song came on. Then writing the song title and band on those tiny lines in the cassette tape cover.” Another person chimed in, “Watching hours of music videos I had zero interest in, just waiting for that one song, then scrambling to record it on a blank VHS tape!”
One more person shared a socially awkward gem: “Having to talk to WHOEVER answered the phone at your friend’s house (mom, dad, older siblings, their grandma—it could’ve been anyone!) just to reach your friend. Sometimes, you had to make small talk! That’s where my social anxiety started [laughing emoji].”
Another trend making the rounds in the NFL is players signing old photos of themselves. Teams like the Jets, Packers, and Lions have jumped on board, featuring childhood pics, first Facebook profile shots, and even draft year photos. You can check some of them out here.
