August 1 Tampa Bay Storm Update: Heavy Rain, But Hopefully That’s All
Tampa weather watchers continue to monitor that tropical system firing up. Over the past day or two, the track of the storm has unfortunately pushed west. That means the Tampa area could see more rain and flooding than originally thought.
The thing is about this storm is it still hasn’t organized itself completely so the track has been tough to pinpoint. But here’s the latest Tampa Bay storm update from the weather experts.
As of this morning (August 1), Denis Phillips from ABC Action News says we won’t see any impacts of this weather system until at least Sunday. And by Tuesday, it will be exiting our area. The National Hurricane Center says the storm has a 60% chance of development so this could become Tropical Storm Debby.
One thing working in our favor is there is a lot of dry air. And of course, Denis encourages you to remember Rule #7: don’t freak out. Stay updated and over the next few days check off the list of stuff in your hurricane supply kit because we’re just now getting to the busiest part of the hurricane season.
For today we can expect heavy thunderstorms at times with temperatures hovering around 90. The same for tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. It’s just more of that typical Florida August weather. But again as for impacts from this possible tropical storm, we won’t really see any noticeable changes in the Tampa area until Sunday or Monday. Until then, it’s just that typical Florida summer weather with pop up storms.
Our next Tampa Bay storm update
New information will become available at around 11 this morning when the next National Weather Service readings come in.
