So, when a beloved spot like this 76-year-old sandwich spot in Old Tampa files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it’s a sad sight. Brocato’s is and has been a popular lunch spot for many years. It was announced today that the family-owned shop filed for bankruptcy so that they can get all their debts in order and reorganize due to falling behind on payments after the pandemic.
Brocato’s has been a staple in Old Tampa since their doors opened back in 1948. I’ve personally have been to Brocato’s and was put on to the shop by one of my good friends & longtime Tampa natives, who grew up having lunch there. It was a must, when I went for the first time, to try their cult classic devil crab’s sandwich. Let me tell you, it was easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in the city. Easily top 5.
The classic lunch spot has been ranked amongst the best in the Tampa Bay area for having one the best Cuban sandwiches. When you have held the standard that Brocato’s has held for such a long time, and their dedication to serving great food, and amazing service, it hits the heart for Tampa foodies who have been going to this spot and supporting for so many years.
