Tampa Bay Lightning Unveil New Alternate Jersey
We had a feeling this was coming. When a new billboard went up in South Tampa that a “storm was brewing”, we only took that to mean one thing. New Tampa Bay Lightning alternate jersey. Today the Bolts unveiled their new alternate jersey, honoring our team’s 3 cup legacy. These sleek all-black jerseys are going to be flying off the shelves. The Bolts will be wearing these at the next three home games on February 15, 17, and 19.
Some fans saw a sneak peek of the sweater when it was leaked on X (Twitter) a few months ago. It had some mixed reactions.
Details of the New Tampa Bay Lightning Alternate Jersey
This jersey looks simple at first glance, but the details really make it. The team says we earned our stripes, so we’ll wear our legacy. So they brought back the fan-favorite victory stripes on the sleeves. Each stripe represents one Stanley Cup win. The victory stripes were also apart of the Bolts inaugural jerseys that were worn on October 7, 1992. But like on those jerseys, and the reverse retro series, the stripes were under the arms.
Secondly, they switched the Lightning logo for the crest that is usually worn on the shoulder patch of the regular jerseys. This crest was introduced to the club in 2011. Inside the collar, they have the 3 years the Bolts brought home the Stanley Cup, ’04, ’20, ’21. This might be my favorite detail. The team went with a matte black helmet as a modern spin on the newest color scheme. Our other favorite feature is the 3D player numbers. On the last black alternate jersey, it was too dark to see, especially when you’re sitting in the upper level at Amalie Arena.
What Do The Fans Think?
Overall it seems the jersey has had mostly positive reactions from Tampa Bay Lightning fans. Of course, there’s always going to be some haters. We’ve seen some people call it a “practice jersey”, and others have compared it to Toronto Maple Leafs jerseys. What do you think? You can buy the jerseys online here, or at the next few games at Amalie Arena. The only question is… What player will you get?
