‘Suicide Squad’: See The Preview With Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Pete Davidson
At DC’s Fandome event today, James Gunn revealed the first trailer for the upcoming film The Suicide Squad. It’s the follow up to 2016’s disappointing Suicide Squad, and while it keeps some of the same actors and characters, there’s a lot of new members of the Squad.
Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn (her own feature, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) hit theaters in January), as does Viola Davis as government agent Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as squad leader Rick Flag, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Notably gone: Will Smith as Deadshot, and Jared Leto, who played the Joker in a performance that was almost universally panned.
New actors/characters include: David Dastmalchian (Polka Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), Mayling Ng (Mongal), John Cena (Peacemaker), Flula Borg (Javelin), Nathan Fillion (TDK), Peter Capaldi (Thinker), Pete Davidson (Blackguard), Sean Gunn (Weasel), Alice Braga (Solsoria), Michael Rooker (Savant).
Michael Rooker starred as Yondu in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel, and Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn played Kraglin, and also was motion-capture model for Thanos and Rocket.
Watch the preview below, as well as a video introducing the new characters. As of now, The Suicide Squad is due in theaters on Aug. 2, 2021.
