Florida’s Texting While Driving Laws May Change
MIAMI, FL - MAY 28: Florida Governor Rick Scott (C) is surrounded by politicians and law enforcement personnel as he signs Florida Senate Bill 52, legislation to ban texting while driving during a visit to Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School on May 28, 2013 in Miami, Florida. The bill prohibits a person from manually typing or entering multiple letters, numbers, symbols or other characters into a wireless communications device while driving. This includes text messaging, emailing and instant messaging through smart phones. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)
Distracted driving seems to be getting worse. Everywhere you look, whether you’re at a stop light or doing 70 over the Howard Frankland, there’s someone glancing at the road and then back at their phone. Florida lawmakers are considering strengthening the texting and driving laws. It would become a primary offense. This means that it could be the only reason a cop could pull you over.
