Leto And Robbie To Have Stand Alone Joker And Harley Film
These two again?!
Along with the producing of a Gotham City Sirens film which will star Margot Robbie, it looks as if she will also be getting a stand alone film with Jared Leto.
The pair are in final negotiations to have a Joker and Harley Quinn movie, that will follow up to the Suicide Squad film, which left little Leto, more Harley to begin with.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glenn Ficarra and Jon Requa, the minds behind This Is Us, will be writing and directing, which seems like an odd choice, but they’d probably know more about creating an emotionally abusive relationship than those of Joss Whedon, Zack Snyder, and the usual suspects of directors.
The description of the film is a “criminal love story,” and “an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on Benzedrine.”
The interesting point to be made is this: How do you stay true to a comic book, but also tackle the feminist opposition of the fact that Harley Quinn, aka Harleen Quinzel, was seduced into an abusive relationship, one that many falsely idolize as “passion is pain?”
After Suicide Squad was released, an influx of memes were shared of “Get a relationship like Joker and Harley,” which, on the surface point, he did come back for her (spoiler), showing that he truly needs her, but if you dig deeper, they are in a twisted mix of obsession, attraction, and desire.
It will be interesting has to how they will interpret them as a modern day version of Joker and Harley, and if they will elude to any connections of Harley Quinn also being a lover to Poison Ivy.
