It’s hard to believe that summer in the Sunshine State is almost over. The kids will be going back to school in a few weeks. Starting this Monday, July 25th and going on till Sunday, August 7th, you can save some money on school-related purchases for your children.

Florida’s Back-To-School sales tax holiday covers items like clothing, shoes, supplies, learning aids, and personal computers. In addition to the sales tax savings, stores will be marking down prices as well. “A lot of our retailers are going to be offering sales alongside the sales-tax holiday and really try to motivate people to get out and shop,” said Scott Shalley, president of the Florida Retail Federation. “We are at a time of high inflation, and you have got to spread the dollar as far as you can.”

Here’s a breakdown of the categories that will be tax-exempt for Florida’s Back-To-School tax holiday:

• Clothing and footwear

  The kids gotta look good for the first day of school! Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item are tax- free.

• School supplies

  Stock on those pens, pencils, notebooks, and more! Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item are tax-free.

• Educational learning aids

  Flashcards or other learning cards, matching or other memory games, puzzle
  books and search-and-find books, interactive or electronic books and toys intended to teach
  reading or math skills are just some of the things with a sales price of $30 or less that are tax-free.

• Personal computers and related accessories

  Does your student need a new laptop? Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories (flash drives, software, cables, etc) with a sales price of $1,500 or less are tax-free. Just remember that these items must be purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.
