There are lots of reasons to love living in Florida. Many people envy the year-round warm weather and gorgeous beaches. Sure just like every state, some cities have their flaws. With that being said, we’re happy that St. Petersburg didn’t make the list of having the most contaminated water in the United States. Sadly, there was a Florida City that did.
Here in the United States, the water quality is an issue. Some of our water is contaminated with heavy metals, chemical toxins, and microbial pathogens. This has affected our water supply from coast to coast.
In the summer of 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency put together a proposal for the establishment of the inaugural national drinking water standard. This standard aims to address the perilous presence of six synthetic chemicals that pose a significant threat to human health.
How This List Was Put Together
To create this list 24.7 Tempo looked at data collected by WaterFilterGuru. This is a site that tests and reports on water filtration products. The data is from the environmental working group which analyzed water quality in 70 cities across the United States.
They used data from the Environmental Working Group, which is a nonprofit organization. This organization analyzes water quality in 70 cities across the United States. There was an index created giving a weight of 20 to the number of contaminants that exceed EWG health guidelines, violations issued in each quarter from April 2019 to March 2021 and total contaminants.
Other factors were given a weight of 8. Those factors include levels of specific contaminants in the water, drawn from the environmental testing and data site SimpleLab.
Below are the top 4 American cities with the most contaminated water. I also added the Florida City that made this list as well. The Florida City that made the list came in at number 17 for having the most contaminated water in the United States. You can find the Full list here.
