Jelly Roll’s Busy NYC Weekend
Jelly Roll continues to wow fans all over the country. Over the weekend, he spent time in New York City and played some high-profile shows. Making his debut performance on Saturday Night Live on the season premiere episode, Jelly sang a couple of songs, one an old favorite and a new song from his upcoming album. As if that wasn’t enough, earlier that day Jelly did a special performance in Central Park as part of the annual Global Citizen’s Concert. On Friday night, he headlined Madison Square Garden and was joined by Post Malone.
Jelly Roll sang “Liar” for his first song on SNL, wearing a denim jacket with studs. It was an epic performance: he had 10 backup singers in his band. During “Liar,” Jelly stopped as he gave his guitar player a solo and said “I’m on Saturday Night Live” with a little disbelief and a big smile.
For his second song, he sang “Hold On,” which is an unreleased song from his upcoming album. He wore a black jacket, and this time, he had even more vocal power: on this song, there were 14 backup singers.
Jelly did not appear in any skits on the show, but he did stand at the end and give hugs and do a little dancing as host Jean Smart said goodbye to the audience.

He posted a clip of his speech at the show last year when he won for New Artist. He wrote, “This was one of those things that I felt the momentum shift and my trajectory change. Last year winning the New Artist award at the CMA AWARDS was one of the most special moments of my life. I couldn’t sleep for days I was so wired up and excited.”
Jelly added, “Now to come back this year nominated for Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and (I can’t believe I’m about to type this) ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR is mind-blowing. I just want to thank the CMA’s for their consideration I don’t take these nominations lightly just like I have carried my New Artist of the Year as a badge of honor the last year. November 20th LIVE on ABC. See y’all there.”
