What Is The Unsent Project? Here’s How To Find Your Messages
Have you ever had a secret love or confession that you really wanted to tell someone? Maybe the one that got away? Some will say it’s not good to bottle up your feelings. Which is one of the reasons why this website exists. The Unsent Project is a website where you can anonymously post your “unsent text messages” to first loves.
This website has been around since 2015 but somehow we are just hearing of it. Remember those anonymous “ask me anything” or “truths” websites? Well The Unsent Project is kinda similar to that. The website hosts over 5,000,000 unsent text messages to peoples first loves. And the term “first love” can be open to interpretation. This could not only be a past lover but also a friend, parents, siblings, exes, even pets.
The mission of the Unsent Project is to figure out what color people see love in. To test this, submissions are displayed in the color the submitter associates with their “love”. All texts are submitted and stored digitally in an online archive which can be sorted by name and color. The Unsent Project aims to provide an emotional outlet for those that need it.
How Does The Unsent Project Work?
It’s pretty simple, and you never know what you’ll find. I feel like the odds of you actually finding a message that’s for you is pretty slim to none, especially if you have a common name like me. When I searched it on the website, I only found 32 submissions. None of them seemed to be related to me but it was interesting to read other people’s stories and see some messages and think “Hmm that could have been this person”.
But there are some crazy coincidences. On a Tik Tok video explaining how the website works, a user commented “Wait I got engaged 12/17/23 and this just popped up in my FYP and literally on 12/18/23 it says “emily congrats on your engagement. i’ll get it right in the next life”
A new version of the website was recently updated and the submit function has returned! There is a limitation of one submission per day. Additionally, the Unsent Project team will be approving submissions for them to be posted in the archive instead of posting every submission automatically.
