Tampa Bay County Has More Reported STD Cases Than The Villages
This is not a joke, “Hillsborough county has more reported std cases then the entire state of Florida.” According to reports, STD rates in Florida have increased by 42% in the last decade. With that being said, Hillsborough county alone reported some of the highest numbers. I live in St. Petersburg which is close to Hillsborough County, so this hits close to home! Wrap it up and get tested.
Hillsborough County Had 932 Cases Of Bacterial STD Cases Reported
Data from the Hillsborough County Health department shows that Hillsborough county reported 932 cases of bacterial STDs per 100,000 residents in 2022. The entire state of Florida reported 762 cases per 100,000 people. Health officials tell us that both of these rates surpass pre-pandemic levels.
The CDC data shows us that half of the reported cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis were among people ages 15-24 in 2022. CDC also says gay men are disproportionally impacted by sexually transmitted infections. Reports tell us that Polk and Pinellas counties reported some of the highest STD case rates as well.
Why Are STD Rates Rising?
I did this topic on my radio show, and it seems like people are not getting tested like they should. Some think that it’s expensive but that is a myth. There are places that offer free testing in the Hillsborough County area and you can find a location near you HERE. Also, it is important to practice safe sex. Condoms are available for free at the Hillsborough county health department.
