The Hot Seat: Florida Is One Of The Most Sinful States In America
Some states are more well-behaved than others. But it’s fair to say that every state has its vices, from having drug problems to gambling addicts. WalletHub, a personal finance company, looked into the most sinful states in America. They compared the 50 states across 55 key indicators of “immoral or illicit” behavior. Their data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders.
“Although residents of every state have wonderful qualities, people across the nation have their own moral struggles, from violent outbursts and bullying to compulsive gambling, excessive lust, and self-destructive consumption,” said a WalletHub analyst. They added, “At the individual level, harmful behavior may only impact a few people, but when a higher share of a state’s population engages in these activities, it diminishes the overall quality of life.”
Florida is one of the most sinful states in America
Florida scored the number four spot when it comes to the most sinful states in the U.S. The state saw a high rating for anger and hatred, jealousy, greed, and lust. According to the study, Florida has the most beauty salons per capita. It also scored high in the vanity category.
Nevada tops the list at number one.
According to the study, Nevada is the most sinful state in the U.S. This might not come as a surprise to some people, seeing that the state’s most well-known city is nicknamed “Sin City.” The study points out that the state leads the nation in casinos. It also has one of the largest gambling arrests per capita. Interestingly, they also point out that Nevada residents have some anger issues they vent online. They said that over 10% of the internet comments written by people in the state are hostile, with one of the highest rates in the nation.
Additionally, people in the state can be self-centered while partaking in their vices. According to the study, the state has the second-lowest volunteer rate in the country.
Following Nevada are Louisiana and California. The study points out that Louisiana residents use substances irresponsibly more than people in other states, leading the nation in adults who said they have driven drunk and have one of the highest rates of retail opioid prescriptions. Unfortunately, the state has an extremely high number of violent crimes per capita.
California has one of the highest numbers of mass shootings and elder abuse complaints, along with a very high rate of aggravated assault arrests per capita. The study shows that California residents have given in to lust as well, searching Google for terms relating to pornography and affairs more than people in any other state.
