Tampa: The Science Of The Cuban Sandwich Event Is This Week
The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) is holding one of its most unique fall events this Saturday, September 16. An event discussing the science of the Cuban Sandwich will take place at MOSI, 4801 E. Fowler Avenue.
“Bring your appetite and learn all about this Tampa classic,” MOSI states on its website. This will take place from 6 pm – 9 pm on Saturday evening.
What Will Take Place?
There are various components to this three-hour event. First, what does the “Science of the Cuban sandwich” mean? MOSI Tampa explains that the event will “uncover the secrets behind the perfect Cuban sandwich with fascinating science demonstrations and interactive displays.”
There will also be interactive portions, such as a Cuban sandwich competition. Restaurants will be on site, and guests will vote for their favorite rendition of this classic. This will be complemented by drink partners specifically selected to provide beverages that enhance the flavors of the Cuban sandwich. Next, get ready to put your dancing shoes on and enjoy live music. Lastly, other details include a raffle with the chance to win fun prizes.
Who Are The Cuban Sandwich Experts?
While names have not been revealed, the expectation is that acclaimed Cuban sandwich chefs from local establishments will be in attendance to explain each layer of this classic. “Prepare to be amazed by the physics of bread baking, the chemistry of fillings, and the mind-blowing biology of taste and flavor,” That’s So Tampa explains.
You don’t have to be an enthusiast to attend either. If you are new to this sandwich game, a classic Cuban consists of freshly baked bread filled with sliced pork, ham, melted cheese, pickles, and mustard. It is common for the bread to be toasted or pressed in a panini grill.
You must register in advance in order to attend the Science of the Cuban sandwich event at Tampa’s Museum of Science and Industry. If you are a MOSI member, tickets are $20. Nonmembers can attend for $25. Each registration includes one drink ticket. This is a 18+ event.
Tampa: 3 Things To Know About Birdie Club Indoor Golf
Starting today, you can officially begin making reservations at the Birdie Club. The premier indoor golf facility in Tampa will open its doors on Thursday (August 31), and here we will look at three additional things to know.
“The Birdie Club is South Tampa’s first indoor golf lounge, offering three Trackman simulators and a place for all lovers of the game to practice in the comfort of air conditioning,” That’s So Tampa says.
The address of Birdie Club is 3409 S. Dale Mabry Highway in South Tampa. They will be open seven days per week. Monday through Thursday from 10 am – 10 pm. Friday and Saturday, get an extra hour at 10 am – 11 pm. Finally, Sunday will be the day with the least availability, opening at 10 am and closing at 6 pm. The club is all-ages but does require that a waiver be signed by a legal guardian for anyone under 18 years old.
Golf But Cooler
On Birdie Club’s social media pages, they have been teasing the slogan, “Golf, but cool(er).” This is a creative nod to the game being played indoors with air conditioning and their clever logo design. It appears from their posts promoting the grand opening that swag and merchandise items sporting the Birde Club logo will be part of their mission to spread the word.
The Birdie Club has been in the works for a few years now. In fact, they first created their social media pages back in 2021. Then, in April of 2023, they started to build the excitement that the club was opening soon. Videos explaining the technology, in addition to photos that gave viewers a behind-the-scenes peek at the construction began to be shared. Finally, by May, details around the membership offering format began to emerge.
Ready Set Swing
The first indoor golf lounge in Tampa will be available to book for private events as well. To further build the anticipation of this premier space, let’s take a look at three important facts to know.
