Tampa Bay Bucs Ranked One Of The Best Uniforms In The NFL
In two days many NFL teams will put on their official game uniforms for the first time this year. The first preseason game (aside from the Hall of Fame game) kicks off the 2023 season. The Tampa Bay Bucs will be at home taking on the Steelers and sporting a top-ranked uniform in the NFL.
Bets Dressed recently published their official uniform ranking of all 32 NFL teams. They listed the best (Los Angeles Chargers) down to the worst (Washington Commanders). Good news Buccaneers faithful: your hometown squad cracked the top five.
In the top category, labeled “elite, the cream of the crop,” the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Dallas Cowboys round out the top four spots.
Bucs Are #5
Here’s what we know about the Bucs’ 2023 official threads. First, there are many different combinations. The standard in the NFL is that the home team decides their uniform choice. Usually, that means wearing your color at home and a white jersey (with corresponding pants) on the road. With the Bucs, we know that’s not often the case. They are one of the teams that always keep it interesting and sometimes choose to wear white at home.
In 2020, the team brought back the uniform design that was sported from 1997-2013 (when the Bucs won their first Super Bowl). This means a red and white jersey, matched with either the pewter or white pants. Then, there’s the all-pewter/gray alternate option.
It’s funny that Bets Dressed used the term “cream of the crop.” 2023 marks the return of the Bucs’ classic “Creamsicle” throwback uniform. The team announced that we will first see these worn during their week six game against the Detroit Lions (October 15).
“The sweet spot is finding sharp primaries paired with alternates that bring down the house (throwbacks or otherwise). Tampa Bay is in that perfect place,” Bets Dressed wrote.
It is unknown what uniform we can expect on Friday, or during their season opener September 10 vs. the Minnesota Vikings. One thing is certain, however. The team will be looking sharp.
Ranking NFL Teams New Alt/Throwback Uniforms
To hype the start of NFL training camp and the upcoming 2023 season, many teams are unveiling a new gameday look. From classic throwbacks uniforms to more vibrant colorways, we’ve compiled a ranking for the best (and worst) of the new NFL alternative or throwback uniforms that you’ll see this season.
To clarify, this ranking is specific only to those teams sporting these threads on special occasions throughout the season. This does not include those uniform sets that have been updated (like the Carolina Panthers) or are a total makeover.
There is a lot to unpack here. Most recently, the Tennessee Titans finally showed us what we knew was coming. They will pay tribute their history with the Houston Oilers look. The same holds true for the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles who will both throw it back to their original colors. Then, there’s the Arizona Cardinals. They are the only franchise on this list that will have a completely new uniform design this season.
What Was The Methodology?
First of all, I considered tradition. In professional sports, so many teams’ original uniforms contain a character that truly embodies the city. Over the past 20 years, many organizations have moved away from that and opted for a louder and more modern look. Now, we are finding so many players and fans alike are attracted to the simpler design that screams history, instead of that extra neon stripe down the side.
Currently, the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have top selling jerseys in the NFL. They are the only two in the top ten sellers that will offer a new option for the 2023 season. Will their new alternate look be a future hot item? Time will tell. But for now, our official ranking lists the best new alternative and throwback uniforms for the upcoming NFL season.
