Occasional Naps Good For Heart Health Per New Study
People who enjoy a good nap every once in a while have some good news thanks to a new study from the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland.
In the new study published by British Cardiovascular Society journal Heart, people who take daytime naps one to two times a week were “48% less likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or heart failure than those who did not nap at all.”
The study was conducted over a five year period on 3,462 people ranging in ages from 35 to 75. Their nap length ranged from five minutes to upward of an hour.
However, if you’re napping every single day, there might be a bigger health issue you need to address. University of Glasgow professor of Metabolic Medicine Naveed Sattar commented on the study to CNN and said, “This means the former pattern of occasional napping is intentional and the latter of more regular napping likely represents sub-clinical illness linked to poorer lifestyle. This would then explain the differential risks.”
So, don’t sweat it if you take a nap a couple of times a week, but if you find yourself dosing off during the day on a nearly daily basis, you might want to talk to your doctor.
