Sam Hunt: ‘When You Have Kids, Your Heart Grows’
Sam Hunt is the father of two kids: a toddler, his daughter Lucy Louise, and a baby, his son Lowery Lee. Since becoming a dad a few years ago, Sam tells us he has changed in many ways.
In a recent interview, Hunt said that change has even come in the way he writes music. He offered, “I think when you have kids, your heart grows. If your heart grows, you have more emotion to pull from. That’s how I feel about having kids and writing songs.”
Sam added, “I feel the well just got deeper, and I’m hoping that can translate into more meaningful songs, even if they are directly about fatherhood. I think they will be reflections of songs written by an artist who is also a dad.”
Hunt posts a lot more about his growing family on social media than he ever did before. In a recent post, he shared photos from a family photo and horse riding day in his native Georgia.
He posted a photo of himself, his brothers, his parents, and all the Hunt family’s children on Instagram and wrote, “The Hunts in Georgia.”
Many of his almost four million followers commented on the post. One fan wrote, “These are fantastic!” Another fan said, “I love the nostalgia in the photos.” One more die-hard commented, “Absolutely the best photos .. beautiful family.”

Hunt was a newcomer to country music not long ago, but after a handful of years, he admits that now, he stands for the old traditions of country music.
He told us in a recent interview, “It sort of feels like it’s in a healthy society. The young folks push, but then the older folks sort of hold strong to tradition. I have grown up pushing and now I’m a little bit older.”
Sam continued, “Nashville’s changing quite a bit. There are a lot of folks coming to town who aren’t necessarily rooted in the same traditions that country music or the town has traditionally been rooted in.”
He added, “I’m starting to feel a little bit of responsibility for ‘Hey, let’s not go too fast’ to just wipe everything down and not preserve the elements that are important to preserve.”
“As I’ve gotten older, I feel more responsibility to take on that role of someone who is rooted in those traditions and feels the need to make sure that we balance out all the progress that’s happened. I feel responsible to step over to that side of the scale to balance things out.”
