Lainey Wilson Raises A Boot In Australia
Lainey Wilson has been in Australia all week, playing for fans “down under.” She just completed a concert tradition that most country stars playing Australia end up doing when they play the country: She drank beer out of a cowboy boot.
The Stage Moment
Lainey even posted a video of the stage moment on her Instagram. Wilson pours beer from her boot to her bandmate’s boot in the video clip. She said, “Are you ready for this? I can’t believe I’m drinking a beer out of a boot. But I’m dang excited about it. Are you ready, brother? Let’s go! Come on! Haller and Swaller!
She captioned the video clip, “Shoeeyyyyy.”

Australian Tradition
According to Tasting Table, the strange Australian tradition began in the early 2000s, although no one knows for sure who started it. Called a “shoey,” it involves drinking a beverage, usually some form of alcoholic drink out of a shoe or boot. Many musicians do just that on stage when they perform in Australia, from Luke Bryan to Post Malone to Harry Styles.
Photos From Australia
Wilson posted several photos from her time in Australia this week, including shots of her onstage, backstage, and signing autographs for Australian fans. She captioned the photo dump, “Australia, thank y’all taking me down under with y’all. When I decided to write songs as a little girl, I never thought somebody on the other side of the world would be able to relate to my story. I was just a little redneck from Baskin… man was I wrong?! We are all a lot more alike than you think. We all just wanna feel something.”
Aussie Fans React
Many fans reacted to her post, including one Australian local who wrote, “@laineywilson, you are such a down-to-earth person. I cannot wait to see you perform on Sunday night.” Another fa from down under said, “We are coming to see you on Thursday in Melbourne @laineywilson. We can’t wait! Our kids’ first-ever concert!” One more fan commented, “You were so amazing! Was definitely worth flying over from New Zealand to see you live. Love you, Lainey.”
