Top ‘Silly Fights’ That Can ‘Derail’ Your Relationship
Many couples bicker and fight about little things. That’s just something that happens when you spend a good chunk of time with a person. Some of these small disagreements can be as silly as what to have for dinner, what pasta to buy, or where your dirty clothes should go. While it’s okay to have these little moments of bickering, some silly fights can derail your relationship. Best Life, a lifestyle magazine, teamed up with therapists and relationship experts to compile a list of “silly fights” that can derail your relationship.
Some people are a bit weary of letting the world completely in. This is sometimes the case with showing that you’re in a relationship on social media. The magazine kicked off their list with fighting about if you’re hiding your partner on social media. Jeff Guenther, a licensed professional counselor who shares relationship advice on TikTok as @therapyjeff, posted a video about this topic. His advice is to not hide your significant other on your page if you’re active on social media. “Be proud of your new cutie, celebrate the relationship, and make it obvious,” the lifestyle magazine mentioned.
Relatable Silly Fights
This one speaks volumes to some couples. Similar to how you might show off your partner on social media, they emphasize how important it is to introduce your partner to colleagues, friends, and family. “It is incredibly uncomfortable for your partner to stand beside you as you have a conversation with someone [they] do not know,” Courtney Morgan, licensed professional clinical counselor, explained to the outlet.
According to the list, fighting about not watching an episode of a show together is another way to derail your relationship. Sure, it’s easy to continue binging a show on your own, even if you and your partner decide to watch it together. But one of their experts said that while this might seem like a silly fight, it goes deeper than that. It shows that you honor the commitment to doing something together. “You agreed to go on the emotional and psychological journey with your sweetie,” they said. “But now you’re skipping ahead without them.” Since getting invested in a series together can be a bonding experience, they suggest waiting to watch the show together instead of fighting about it.
Other silly fights on the list include keeping score on chores, like how often you do the dishes and take out the trash, fighting about chores in general, and liking other people’s posts on social media, among others.

These Are the Most Common Reasons People End a Relationship
Being in a relationship isn’t always easy. First, there’s that honeymoon phase where the other person can do no wrong. You might even think some of their quirks, like how they make a funny sound when they sip coffee, are cute at first. Then, a few months later, you might think those same quirks are super annoying. But, if there’s love, then, in a perfect world, that relationship should always be able to work. Sometimes, though, it doesn’t work. Sometimes couples decide to part ways. So, what are the most common reasons people end a relationship?
Before we reasons why people end their relationship, let’s get into some stats. According to Forbes.com, both marriage and divorce rates have gone down over time. Forbes.com states that in 2000, roughly 944,000 divorces and annulments happened, and the crude divorce rate was 4.00 per population during that year. But, by 2021, that crude divorce rate had fallen to 2.5 per 1,000 population. Also, in 2021, only 689,308 people divorced, so much less than the 944,000 in 2000. So, the fact that the divorce rate is going down is a good thing. But, it’s partly because people aren’t getting married as much. The marriage rate, according to the Forbes.com article, declined from 8.2 per population in 2000 to 6.00 per population in 2021. So, when do couples divorce? They say “the average length of a marriage prior to divorce is eight years.”
What’s interesting is that even from just year-to-year, marriage rates seem to be going down. According to Worldpopulationreview.com, “between 2018 and 2019, the number of marriages dropped significantly, by about 5.5 percent.” If you’re curious, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, “Alaska and Utah had among the highest marriage rates, at 23.5 and 22.3, respectively.” Also, “Puerto Rico had among the lowest marriage and divorce rates” and “Massachusetts had a marriage rate of 11.8, also among the nation’s lowest.” Now, let’s get into the most common reasons people end a relationship, not just marriages.
