Shania Twain Is ‘Impressed Much’ By Barbie’s Ryan Gosling
Shania Twain weighed in and made her thoughts known on the Oscar buzz when Ryan Gosling, who is an Oscar nominee for Best Supporting (January 23) for his work on the Greta Gerwig-directed film Barbie, stood up for his coworkers Gerwig and Margot Robbie, saying they also should have been Oscar nominees.
Gosling told People that “There is no Ken without Barbie.” The two women weren’t nominated in their respective Best Director and Best Actress categories. Gosling said, “There is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius.”
Shania posted his comments and a photo of the actor on her Insta Stories and wrote, quoting some of her own song lyrics, “So, you’re a Ken doll…that don’t impress me much. But of course, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera do. Well said! Let’s go, Barbies!”

Twain recently announced that her “Come On Over” Residency will launch in May 2024 at the 7,000-seat Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The residency will be 24 shows set for May, August, September, November, and December. This marks Twain’s third residency, following her “Still the One” residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace (2012-14) and the more recent “Let’s Go!” Residency at Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood (2019-22).
Shania talked with Billboard about the new Las Vegas gig, saying she wants to “change things” up and “evolve.” She noted that the whole theater would be her “playroom for a while.” She also said that she loves doing residencies because she gets to “consistently build a show” that she doesn’t have to worry about moving around.
Shania also said that It’s a very different approach to production when you have the luxury of things being maybe a “little more fragile” that you couldn’t take on the road. She loves that “controlled environment” and that the custom element of her production is a “luxury.”
The new slate of shows will take place in May (10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 23, 25, and 26), August (23, 24, 29, and 31), September (1, 4, 6, and 7), November (29 and 30) and December (4, 6, 7, 11, 13 and 14). Tickets go on sale on August 21.
