Lewis, the Viral Target Decoration, Takes Over Halloween
As Halloween approaches, stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s offer a variety of Halloween animatronics, including the well-known 12-foot-tall skeleton and the recently introduced 13-foot Jack Skellington (from The Nightmare Before Christmas). Recently, an 8-foot-tall pumpkin decoration sold at Target has gained widespread viral attention.
Shoppers took to TikTok to share videos featuring an 8-foot-tall figure dressed in a black cloak with a pumpkin-shaped head prominently displayed in the department store’s Halloween section.
Despite its resemblance to a spooky jack-o’-lantern, this impressive decoration is actually a towering character known as “Lewis.” When activated, Lewis introduces himself with the statement, “I am not a jack-o’-lantern – my name is Lewis,” the decoration says. This item is part of Target’s in-house Halloween brand, Hyde & EEK! Boutique, and carries a price tag of $180, though it is currently out of stock.
Beyond his viral introduction, the pumpkin-headed figure delivers other phrases like “I fear nothing night or day, except a strong breeze to make me sway” and “I’m so happy you could carve out some time to come out tonight.”
Many enthusiastic shoppers have filmed themselves visiting Target stores to witness Lewis in person, treating him like a celebrity. Some have gone so far as to create shirts inspired by Lewis, while others have expressed disappointment when they found Target stores not activating the decorations.
A couple of TikTokers have also shared that their local stores are giving the decorations Target name tags that read “Lewis.” Interestingly, a few TikTok users have reported that their local stores have assigned the decorations name tags that read “Lewis.”
As of Tuesday, a search for “jack o lantern Target” on TikTok yields dozens of videos with a combined total of 597.9 million views.
While purchasing your own Lewis may not be possible at the moment, chances are you can catch a glimpse of him at your nearby store as part of the Halloween section lineup.
