Thomas Rhett: His Latest Hit Is A ‘Different’ Kind Of Love Song
Thomas Rhett and his wife of ten years Lauren Akins met in grade school. He has written many love songs about his wife. He tops the country chart this week with his latest expression of love with his song “Angels (Don’t Always Have Wings).”
Rhett said in a statement about his 21st chart-topper, “I feel like I’ve been pretty known for love songs throughout my career. But I think we did a good job of portraying love from a different perspective on this one, so that makes it really special for me. This is really an ode to my wife, and on a grander scale. This is for that person in everybody’s life that has stuck with them through thick and thin.”
He added, “So thank you to all those people. It’s really cool to have been celebrating 20 number ones this year. Now to be celebrating my 21st career number one is crazy. I’m just really humbled and grateful and can’t wait for the next ten years.”

Thomas and Lauren grace the cover of Southern Living magazine for the September 2023 issue. The issue is currently available on newsstands.
The couple posed for the issue’s photos at their family farm in Tennessee. They opened up to the magazine about their family’s love of football, game day traditions, and experience as a house divided. Lauren roots for the Tennessee Volunteers and Rhett loves the Georgia Bulldogs.
Rhett reflected on the experience of shooting the cover. He explained, “It’s no secret that our family is pretty much obsessed with football. Lauren and I had a lot of fun chatting with a magazine that appreciates the game as much as we do.”
Lauren echoed his sentiments, saying, “Football was everything to my family growing up, and Thomas Rhett and I have enjoyed passing our love of football down to our daughters. Southern Living celebrates family, traditions, and, of course, college football, so to be able to sit down with them was super special.”
