BREAKING: Morgan Wallen Issues Statement on Racial Slur
Just minutes ago (2/10), Morgan Wallen took to his Instagram to release a video statement addressing the incident where he was caught on camera yelling a racial slur.
Wallen said in the video, “I’m long overdue to make a statement regarding my last incident. I wanted to collect my thoughts and seek some real guidance and come to you with a complete thought before I did.”
He went on to say that he was only made aware of the video where he yelled the slur shortly before TMZ published it. “I wrote many thoughts and only a portion of those were used, which painted me in a more careless light. I’m here to hopefully show you that that’s not the truth.”
He added, “The video you saw was me on hour 72 of a 72 hour bender and that’s not something I’m proud of either. Obviously, the natural thing to do is to apologize further and continue to apologize because you got caught and that’s not what I wanted to do.”
Wallen continued, “I let so many people down who mean a lot to me and have given so much and it’s just not fair. I let my parents down and they are the furthest thing from the people in that video and I let my son down. I am not okay with that.”
He said, “I have also accepted some invitations from some amazing Black organizations and executives and leaders to engage in some very real and honest conversations. I admit to you all that I was very nervous to accept those invitations, the very people I hurt. And they had every right to step on my neck when I was down… to not show me any grace but they did the exact opposite. They offered me grace.”
“And the one thing I have learned already and that I am specifically sorry for is that words mater. A word can truly hurt a person and at my core it’s not what I am okay with.”
Morgan also added that he has been sober for nine days, saying, “Who knows if I will be able to live down all the mistakes I’ve made, but I’m sure gonna try.”
After promising to be “off the grid” for a while, he then said, “I appreciate those that have defended me but please don’t. I was wrong. It’s on me to take ownership for this and I fully accept any penalties I am faced with.”
Jimmie Allen was the first to respond to his video saying, “Love you bro. I’m here for you always. Praying for you. Can’t wait for the world to see your heart. We ALL mess up and we all deserve redemption. The Bible says forgive… Let’s get through this.”
