A ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel With Jennifer Grey Is Happening
Lionsgate has announced that they are working on a Dirty Dancing reboot. Per the New York Post, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed the news during the company’s conference call with Wall Street analysts. Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey is also signed on to star and executive produce the project.
The outlet adds that there were recently rumors about a Dirty Dancing project, but Lionsgate wouldn’t confirm them until now. During the call, Feltheimer said, “And to reveal one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, we’re pleased to confirm that Jennifer Grey will both executive produce and star in a new Dirty Dancing movie for Lionsgate from Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine.”
He adds, “It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company’s history.”
Lionsgate had paused all production due to COVID-19, but they are finally getting back into the swing of things. According to Feltheimer, “With the appetite for fresh content at an all-time high and options for consumers dwindling due to the global shutdown, we made it a strategic priority to be one of the first major studios back into production. Over the past five months, we’ve put together a thoughtful strategy to restart production with protocols to best ensure the safety of cast and crew.”
