University Of Connecticut Cancels Its Football Season
The University of Connecticut became the first team of the Football Bowl Subdivision to cancel its football season due to the pandemic. According to the New York Times, they announced the cancelation of their season today.
A third of the school’s games had been canceled before they made the announcement.
In a statement, David Benedict, the school’s athletic director, cited the effects of the coronavirus and not the scheduling issues as the reason to drop plans for the season.
“The safety challenges created by Covid-19 place our football student-athletes at an unacceptable level of risk. The necessary measures needed to mitigate risk of football student-athletes contracting the coronavirus are not conducive to delivering an optimal experience for our team.”
