Tom Hanks’ Golden Globes Speech Will Make You Cry
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house after Tom Hanks’ speech at the 2020 Golden Globes. While receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Hanks, who was nursing a cold, got choked up when thanking his family. “A man is blessed with a family like that,” he said, holding back tears. “A loving group of people putting up with being away months and months at a time.”
While Hanks joked about his early days on the Love Boat, even singing the theme, he also talked about how his career is full of thievery. “You’re a dope if you don’t steal from people that you work with,” he said before namechecking “one named stars” like Meryl (Streep), Denzel (Washington), Antonio (Banderas), Meg (Ryan), Julia (Roberts) and Sally Field. “Which is two names,” he said, “but really one.”
He talked about professionalism and showing up to work on time, getting verklempt once again at the end of his speech. “It’s the cold,” he said. “I’m not this emotional at home.”
