Dierks Bentley Reacts to ACM Noms, Channels Marie Kondo
Dierks Bentley has a lot of stuff going on in his life on the very day that his The Mountain album is nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award for Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event and Video of The Year for “Burning Man” with Brothers Osborne.
Dierks – who has been nominated for years but rarely wins – shares, “I think when you’re a new artist it’s so important because there’s not a lot of stuff to really…like when you’re on a first date every little thing matters so much, like:do they open a car door for you? The first time really matters a lot.”
“That’s what it’s like when you’re a new artist; [winning an award] carries so much more weight. But now, it’s just so much sweeter…there’s so much more gratitude right now. There’s less space now so to be one of those five guys I appreciate it more than ever. But the album to me is the biggest nomination to get for anything. That’s one of the tangible results that you get to see like the time that goes into making that so, that’s really awesome.”
This morning, hearing his nominations was a particular high as he had a hard time sleeping with a sick dog in his bed and got up to change to his son’s bed to get some sleep when he heard the news. He said, “I can’t sleep with an animal in my bed so at 5 o’clock this morning I said, ‘I’m out’ and I went to sleep in my five year old’s bed so I got up and saw the nominations this morning. It was a good morning to get that.”
Bentley’s life is jam-packed between his career and his family, and like a lot of other Americans, he says he’s gotten a bit addicted to Netflix’s new show about organizing called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.
He admits he’s following the guidelines of the show and takes time to bless each item and thank it for its service before giving it the old heave hoe.
The 54th annual ACM Awards will air on April 7th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.
