Candy Canes Have Been Banned From School
A principal at an Elementary school has been placed on administrative leave after reportedly issuing a memo about appropriate holiday classroom decorations.
Earlier this week, Jennifer Sinclair, of Manchester Elementary School in Nebraska, sent a memo to school staff regarding decorations that were and were not appropriate for the holiday season.
According to Fox News, the memo stated that staff could display items such as sleds, scarves, and Olaf (from Frozen) in their classroom — As those items are acceptable.
However, Candy Canes were banned from classrooms, as the memo stated they had ties to religion. According to Sinclair, the Candy Canes represent a “J” for Jesus.
While Sinclair stated in the memo that the fact that she had to be this specific regarding what was and was not acceptable made her uncomfortable, undoubtedly, it made staff even more uncomfortable — So-much-so that they reported it to the school district.
After the Elkhorn School District placed Sinclair on administrative leave, they issued a statement saying that her views were not in line with the district’s views on acceptable holiday decorations.
