Midland’s Cameron Duddy: We Found Our Footing In Texas
Midland is a bonafide country music success. Their debut single “Drinkin’ Problem” recently hit No. 1, and all signs point to more success with their new single “Make A Little.” There’s a secret to their achievement, though, according to the trio’s Cameron Duddy.
That secret, it turns out, first became apparent in Texas. “When we started playing in the honky-tonks of Texas, that’s how I knew we were in the right place and how I had finally [arrived at] the place I had been looking for my whole life,:” he says through their record label. “Because people in around where we live in hill country go to the honky-tonks to hear music and dance for three hours at a time. They absorb it, they love it, as long as you play something they can dance to – whether it’s a two step, or a waltz – they’re happy.”

Beyond that, though? “[Keeping] them engaged is the next trick, right?” Cameron continues. “And that’s where you start to hone in on your skill. I think playing in the honky-tonks has taught us a lot about endurance, and engaging, and trying to keep people happy.”
The guys are making people happy out on the road these days. Midland appears as part of CMT On Tour With Jon Pardi in the coming weeks in Maryland, South Carolina, Minnesota and Wisconsin. See a complete list of dates here.
