Lady Antebellum Talks About Their Hiatus, Horns And Security
With a new No. 1 album and a single inside the Top 10, Lady Antebellum is back in a big way after a nearly two-year hiatus.
The trio behind “You Look Good” was featured this week on CBS This Morning, where they discussed their successes, recent time apart and pushing themselves in new and “brassy” directions with co-host Gayle King.

“I’d written down ‘Heart Break Summer’ with the concept being if you could have a whole summer for your heart to take a break and not do anything and not jump from one relationship to the next like a serial dater,” Lady A’s Dave Haywood explained of the process behind the new album Heart Break.
Part of that process involved pushing themselves in new directions sonically. “We’re always wondering how we can stay in our lane, but also stay relevant with what we’re doing,” Haywood continued. “And we thought ‘You Look Good’ was such a good representation of our excitement for this record, and it had horns, which was something brand new for us.”
“I’m so excited because I’ve been begging for them for years,” the trio’s Hillary Scott noted of the song’s brass. “I mean, I’ll never forget the first time I heard ‘Sir Duke’ by Stevie Wonder. And I played it over and over in my room; just very prominent, signature horn parts in songs I’ve always gravitated towards. So for me it was like guilty pleasure ‘yes!'”

Lady A also gave their take on security at live music events following the May terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England. “We try not to live our lives that way,” the trio’s Charles Kelley said when asked if it was something they worry about. “But we’re actually going to be playing that actual venue in October.”
“We saw the news [of the Manchester attack] the day we were leaving Nashville to head out on tour,” Hillary added. “So it was a very much a sobering moment. But you can’t live in fear. We saw an incredible event take place not a week later where over 50,000 joined and enjoyed great music and loved on one another. And that’s the goal – music brings people together.”
