Kids Day

It has been difficult times for many people the past few years. However local nonprofit Children’s Home Network provides compassionate and effective services that create opportunities for success for at-risk children and families.

Children’s Home Network has been helping kids in central Florida for over a century. Founder Carrie Hammerly began taking orphaned children way back in 1892. Little did she know that this selfless act would spark an organization that still helps over 25,000 children and adults each year. In 1967 the City of Tampa provided a brand new 88-acre location where they still continue to provide residential services today. Children’s Home Network offers eight different innovative programs and services that have a positive impact on children and their families. Their goal is to help children build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life. Last year, their services and programs impacted the lives of over 6,700 children and their families.

Children’s Home Network accepts gift donations throughout the year to help provide children and families with everyday resources that so many of us take for granted. Click here to make a donation, or consider volunteering! Here’s a list of their programs and how they help families in need.

  • Adolescents in Motherhood (AIM)

The Adolescents in Motherhood Maternity Program accepted its first teen mother in 2015. Since then, the program continues to provide services for teen mothers and expecting teens who are in foster care.

  • Kid's Village

The main site in Tampa hosts Kid’s Village, Children’s Home Network’s residential healing program. Here, children ages 6-17 can reside in their care as they provide them with support for healing from abuse and neglect. This helps them thrive in the future by encouraging the boys and girls in their care to discover their interests, develop their curiosities, and understand their past.

Children’s Home Network Kids Village provides anything from counseling and therapy to medical and dental needs.

  • Supporting and Empowering Educational and Developmental Services (SEEDS)

The SEEDS program is a multi-disciplinary intervention team composed of schools, community, and family representatives. The primary goal of SEEDS is to ensure children are ready for kindergarten, are promoted at the end of the school year, and are reading on level by third grade. CHN collaborates with the Hillsborough County elementary schools across the county to provide children and families with the help they need to overcome some of life’s obstacles.

  • Fostering Families

Children’s Home Network’s Fostering Families program is committed to recruiting, prepareing and supporting foster families. They strive to keep siblings together while providing a safe, nurturing home through reunification and family restoration.

  • Kinship

The Kinship program provides support to caregivers and by helping families connect to services to help them thrive, expanding family support systems, and aims to reduce stress to help promote family stability.

  • Pinellas Support Team

The PST team is a behavioral health and tutoring program that provides services to families residing in Pinellas County with children ages 5-17. This program is aimed for kids who are experiencing difficulties at school due to behavioral and emotional issues.

  • Healthy Families Hillsborough

This nationally accredited home visiting program for expectant parents and parents of newborns experiencing stressful life situations. This program aims to improve childhood outcomes and increase family self-sufficiency by empowering parents with services and support.

  • Reaching and Inspiring Students Everywhere (RAISE)

This new program works collaboratively with families and the community to ensure children from birth through 3rd grade and their families receive services tailored to meet their needs.
