Florida: What Is Our Favorite College Football Team?
It’s no surprise that the southern region of the country has ruled college football the past decade. However, since 2010 only Florida State has finished the season as champions (2013). Here, we will look at the question of what is the favorite college football team in Florida this season?
It’s not who you think. In fact, there are two different ways to approach this subject matter. One of them identifies an in-state team that Sunshine Staters gravitate towards. The other looks at the entire landscape of college football, and here, a different school was named the favorite college football team in Florida right now.
Florida State
First, CBS Sports took a look at the college football world of each state and selected the most powerful one. They examined key metrics such as their 2022 record and the school’s projected future success. Furthermore, they weighed the importance of the new rules and regulations in NCAA college football today, saying, “now with the introduction of not just the transfer portal but the one-time transfer exemption and the proliferation of name, image and likeness rights.”
Florida State came out on top here. They beat out the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes.
“After hitting 10 wins last season, two of which came over Florida and Miami, the stability of the program has been furthered by the return of several stars who could have jumped to the NFL,” CBS Sports states. Florida State had a huge first game, beating #5 ranked LSU on Sunday night.
University of Florida
USA Today‘s recent feature examines the ten most searched-for college football teams to identify the most popular in each state. They analyzed Google trends since 2017 and in the south, each state is aligned to big name school from within their borders.
Florida’s selection using this methodology was the Florida Gators. Furthermore, the Gators were the seventh most searched team, according to USA Today.
Unfortunately, the Gators lost their season opener against Utah last night 24-11. They will host their in-state rival, Florida State, on November 24. Perhaps the outcome of that game will decide the true favorite college football team in Florida this season.
