These Florida Cities Are the Most Armed in the State
If you’re ever wondered which areas of Florida have the most firearms, there’s a new study out that sheds some light on it. The study highlights areas of Florida with the most gun crime, but aside from that, they also points out the areas with the highest number of guns per people.
The Most Armed Cities in Florida
The new study from 247wallst.com notes that “of the nearly 496,600 firearms traced by the ATF in 2022, 36,335 were seized by law enforcement in Florida.” They add that, “Gun violence is often concentrated in certain areas, and in Florida, only 10 cities accounted for nearly half of all gun tracings in 2022.”
Before we get to Florida, it’s worth noting that another study done by City-data.com actually lists the top 100 counties in America with the most firearms, and Florida didn’t even make the top 100. The county with the most firearms in America, according to City-data.com, is Stewart County in Tennessee. No. 2 is Fairbanks North Star Borough, Arkansas, and No. 3 is Nez Perce County, Idaho. As for general numbers, according to Statista.com, “the share of American households owning at least one firearm has remained relatively steady since 1972, hovering between 37 percent and 47 percent. In 2023, about 42 percent of U.S. households had at least one gun in their possession.”
Now, let’s get to Florida. They note that “While Jacksonville led the state with over 3,500 firearm tracings in 2022, adjusting for population, several other cities appear to have far higher rates of gun violence.” Hence, the city with the most guns per 10,000 people in Florida is actually Pensacola with 163.9 guns per 10,000 people in 2022. Total firearm tracings in the city for 2022 was 886, which is 2.4% of all firearms traced in Florida. No. 2 on the list, if you’re curious, is Orlando with 105.2 guns per 10,000 people in 2022. No. 2 on the tally was West Palm Beach with 99.1 guns per 10,000 people in 2022.
