Since its humble beginnings, Publix has grown throughout the Southeastern United States to become one of the largest supermarket chains in the country. For rabid Publix fans like myself Thursdays always hold a special meaning, it is the day that all of the new Publix sales are announced. Along with weekly sale items, and specials, Publix also has a bunch of things on BOGO.
BOGO stands for “buy one get one”. I have to admit, there are many weeks I based my shopping around the BOGO items. So, every week I will compile my completely subjective top five list of Publix BOGO items for that week to maximize savings and plan out my options.
The History of Publix
The first Publix was opened in 1930 in downtown Winter Haven, Florida by George Jenkins. That first building is actually still standing and is the Tempo 1930 restaurant. In 1980, Publix celebrated its 50th anniversary and opened its 300th store right here in Tampa Bay. The 80s brought a new dairy plant as well as the first Publix Pharmacy in 1986. After Jenkins passed away in the 90s, Publix carried on his legacy by expanding into South Carolina and Alabama bringing the one-stop shop grocery chain to new cities and neighborhoods across the South.
Today, Publix is known for its hospitality, great deals, and delicious eats like the famous Pub Subs, popcorn chicken, wings, desserts, and freshly baked loaves of bread. You can grocery shop, dine in, order take-out food, get dessert, and fill prescriptions right in-store. Is there anything Publix can’t do?
