The holiday travel is here and it’s going to be busy at Tampa International Airport. The TSA is release tips for getting through airport security easier and with less stress the official holiday travel period is from December 21 and it goes through January 2 there is a record high number of travelers expected to be flying during the holidays this year. The TSA says that they are expecting airport security checkpoints to be even busier during this year‘s holiday travel season than last year‘s. Finally, the busiest days are expected to be December 21, December 29 and January 1. On those days the TSA says they will screen more than 2.5 million passengers a day.
At Tampa International Airport they say they will see around 80,000 people pass through the main terminal in Tampa between December 18 and January 7. Their busiest day is expected to be December 23 when almost 91,000 people are expected to be arriving and departing through TPA. Additionally the second busiest days expected to be Saturday, December 30.
Tips For Getting Through Security Easier
- Pack smart by starting with an empty bag
- Arrive early – it is going to be busy during the holiday travel period, so be patient
- Bring an acceptable ID – have it ready to go when you get to the TSA security checkpoint.
- Leave gifts unwrapped – If they are wrapped then you will need to put them in your checked baggage
- Prepare, pack and declare firearms
- To find out if an item is prohibited – Check the TSA website under “What Can I Bring?”
- If traveling with food – “If you can spill it, spray it, spread it, pump it or pour it, then it is subjected to the 3.4-ounce liquids rule limitation,” the TSA explains.

2023 in review:
Tampa had a lot of growth in 2023, leaving us excited for what’s to come. This year we said “hello” to many new businesses and attractions including the tallest rooftop bar in Tampa, new restaurants with Michelin-star chefs, changes to our favorite theme park, and more. We also said “goodbye” to some of our favorite businesses and athletes who got traded to other teams (like Pat Maroon on the Tampa Bay Lightning and Ji-man Choi on the Rays).
