Florida Man Finds A Surprise In The Toilet
A Florida man found a surprise in his toilet when he woke up one morning. The man says he has no idea how it got there. This happened in Hollywood, Florida where Gary Greenspan woke up one morning and found an iguana in his toilet. He says, “I don’t know if it was just looking for a spa day or what, but it’s huge.“
He called animal control to get the iguana out of his toilet. The only problem is the iguana was most likely not relocated as it is prohibited by the Florida Fish Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The iguana is an invasive green iguana, which is not native to Florida. This is not the first time one has wound up in a toilet. There has been many incidents of this happening all around the state. Firstly, the way that it gets in is when toilets aren’t being flushed regularly. Finally, part of the toilet can dry out and allow the iguanas to enter that way.
Iguanas are harmless to people, but you definitely don’t wanna find one in your toilet when you wake up in the morning. The FWC does say that they can transmit salmonella to humans through water or surfaces contaminated by their feces.
Where Green Iguanas Are Found In Florida
The green iguana has been added to Florida prohibited species list. They can be captured and humanely killed year round without a permit or hunting license. Green iguanas were first reported in Florida in the 1960’s in South Florida. They can be found on the Atlantic coast of Florida in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties. They’re also found in interior counties like Collier and Lee.
There have been some reports of green iguanas showing up in Hillsborough County, but they are rare.
