Healthiest Halloween candy you can give out to kids in costume.  It's that time of year again, Halloween is approaching soon and it's time to stock up on candy to pass out October 31st to all the trick or treaters.  What is the best candy to give out to kids in costume?  What is the healthiest candy?  The kids come home with hundreds of pieces of candy after trick or treating.  Finding the healthiest Halloween candy to give out can help this time of year.

We all have our favorites when it comes to Halloween candy and some of us like to eat more of it than we’d like to admit.  So it's not a bad thing if you purchase the more "healthier" sweets.   Now, unfortunately, they don’t really offer much nutritional value, if any at all.  Some candy is better than others, according to registered dietitian Rose Britt.

What Is The Healthiest Candy

While there isn't a perfect choice of healthy candy, Britt says the “healthiest” Halloween candy is Peanut M&Ms.  That’s thanks to the peanuts, which give it a little more substance than just corn syrup.

A serving of Peanut M&Ms has a little less than one gram of fiber, two grams of protein and nine grams of sugar.  Peanut M&Ms are also made of mostly milk chocolate, while Almond Joys, which are also made of nuts and chocolate, are mostly made of corn syrup.

Reese’s cups have a similar nutritional value, with a little more added sugar.  Snickers don’t contain any fiber, have one gram of protein and nine grams of added sugar.    Aside from candy with nuts, the healthiest sugary sweets are Smarties. One serving of Smarties has just 25 calories and six grams of sugar, compared to Sour Patch Kids, which contain 110 calories and 24 grams of sugar in one serving.

Giving your kids a bunch of candy isn't a great idea, but for one night, let the kids go crazy.   After that you can limit them to one or two pieces a day.
