The Reason For Major Traffic Delay On US 41 This Week
If you live in East Hillsborough County and travel north or south on US 41, here is the reason for major traffic delay on US 41 this week.
As reported on FDOT the road is going to be closed at a railroad crossing for a few days. The Florida Department of Transportation announced the closure of US 41, which is also known as South Tamiami Trail. This closure is near Riverview Drive in Gibsonton, FL. The road will be closed from 5 a.m. on Monday, October 9 until Wednesday October 11. The railroad company, CSX is removing tracks that run over Hwy 41. The road will reopen by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, if weather permits. The weather should be favorable for the project and should not cause any delays.
During this time, motorists will not be able to cross the tracks and will have to take a detour. This will affect both north and southbound lanes. There are three recommended detours which include: Gibsonton Drive, US 301, and Causeway Boulevard. There will be electronic signs that will guide drivers through the detour.
Traffic will obviously increase on these detour roads. Traffic will also increase on 75 North and Southbound during these two days as most will be avoiding US Hwy 41. The Department of Transportation confirmed that access to side streets and businesses will remain open.
CSX Railroad
The railroad is owned by CSX. CSX Transportation operates in the eastern United States and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The railroad operates approximately 21,000 route miles of track.
As of December 30, 2016, CSX Transportation served population centers in 23 states east of the Mississippi River, the District of Columbia and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Also as of that date, it had access to over 70 ocean, river and lake port terminals along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
