New Florida Minimum Wage Now In Affect
There is a new Florida minimum wage. Also, it doesn’t stop where it is in the coming years. The new Florida minimum wage is $12 an hour. So, that went up one dollar per hour. Not only will the minimum wage raise next year as well by another dollar, but it will continue to go up by one dollar until 2026. Finally, when it goes up in 2026 it will be $15 an hour. The national minimum wage is only $7.25. So, people in Florida have it pretty good. The voters approved the minimum wage that will go up to $15 an hour in 2020.
When Florida gets to $15 in 2026 it will be one of the highest states in the country. California’s is $15.50. Additionally, Connecticut is $15. Other states that also have a $15 minimum wage are Massachusetts and Washington state is $15.74. The highest in the country is actually the District of Columbia and it is $17 an hour.
There are 20 states in the country whose minimum wage is only $7.25. The last time that Florida’s was $7.25 was back in 2011. The last time the federal minimum wage was raised was July 24, 2009. That when it was raised to where it is now at $7.25 an hour.
How Often Does Wages Go Up?
Florida used to be on the national minimum wage, but in 2006 they used their own. It has pretty much gone up every single year since. In 2006 it was $6.40 and in 2026 it will be $15.
