Florida Man Plows Excavator Through Supermarket Wall
Authorities in Florida caught a man they say went on a destructive joyride with a stolen excavator and caused millions of dollars worth of damage. According to a police report obtained by the New York Post, 47-year-old Jesse Smith is accused of driving into several buildings and smashing a construction car through the wall of a Walmart in Gainesville. Let’s just say it how it is… a Man Plows Excavator through supermarket wall!
Here’s what went down:
The Gainesville Police Department said that the suspect hit a storage unit in the 2700 block of SW 40th Blvd. and knocked down power lines before getting to the Walmart in the 2900 block of SW 42nd Street. Officers said they had taken the suspect into arrest, but they didn’t say who he was at the time. No one got hurt in the situation.
The arrest report says that Smith “hot-wired” a yellow Komatsu excavator and drove it away from the building site, knocking down utility poles and fences on the way. Authorities say that after he made a hole in the Walmart, he went into the store with a knife but later threw it away.
The suspect “physically resisted officers and initially refused to put his hands behind his back,” the report says. Officials think that Smith cost the businesses about $2 million worth of damage.
Now what?
Court records say he was charged with first-degree grand theft that caused damage to property worth more than $1,000, armed trespassing, four counts of criminal mischief that caused damage to property, and fighting an officer without violence.
He is being kept in Alachua County Jail while he waits to be tried. Thats what happens when you are a man that Plows Excavator through supermarket wall!
