Health Advisory Issued For Two Tampa Bay Area Beaches
A health advisory has been issued for to Tampa Bay area beaches. The recommendation is due to high bacteria levels. The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County said that Ben T. Davis beach and Davis Island beaches have high bacteria levels. They recommend that you should not swim in these waters.
The bacteria in the water inhabit the intestinal track of humans and animals. It also may cause disease infections or rashes. The bacteria in the water is because of fecal pollution. That may come from stormwater runoff, pets and wildlife. Also, human sewage is another cause of the bacteria. Authorities will re-sample the water in a week. If it is better by then, the advisory will be lifted. Until then, authorities recommend no swimming in the water of Ben T. Davis and Davis Island beaches due to those high bacteria levels.
What Bacteria Is In The Water
The type of bacteria that is in the water is called Enterococci. On the Florida Department of Health website they talk about the bacteria why is important to imform the public. They say, “According to studies conducted by the EPA, enterococci have a greater correlation with swimming-associated gastrointestinal illness in both marine and fresh waters than other bacterial indicator organisms, and are less likely to “die off” in saltwater. If an enterococci result were observed to exceed 70 colony forming units per 100 milliliters of beach water sampled and a resampling result also exceeds this value, then an “Advisory” would be issued for the sampling site.”
Finally, a health adivosry has been issued for those two Tampa Bay beaches. It’s important to listen to the officials as this could make you sick. It’s only for a short time that you won’t be able to swim in those waters. There are other beaches in the Tampa Bay area for you to enjoy.
