Florida Woman Wearing Hospital Gown Takes Ambulance Joyride
A woman from South Florida was caught after police said she stole an ambulance from a hospital and drove it around for fun. The Port St. Lucie Police Department said that Miami resident Marquisa Allen, 25, is facing multiple charges in the August 30 crime of stealing an ambulance.
In the afternoon of that day, an ambulance came to HCA St. Lucie Hospital to drop off a patient. While they were in the hospital, Allen, who was sitting alone on a bench outside wearing a hospital gown, got into the empty car and drove it out of the parking lot, officials say.
The GPS tag on the ambulance was used to send the location of the stolen ambulance to other law enforcement agencies in the area. Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol found the ambulance stopped in traffic on the Turnpike and got closer to Allen.
Police said that the 25-year-old woman got out of the car and ran away on foot, but troopers caught her after a short chase. No one knows what might have led to the crime.
Allen was taken to the Martin County Jail because she told the police lies, drove with a suspended license, and resisted without violence. There may also be more charges from the police force for stealing an ambulance.
“Great work by our PSLPD Officers, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office for working together to catch this suspect so quickly!” wrote cops.
Is there anything more Florida than this Florida story?!
