A list of the most dangerous Florida cities for pedestrians has come out. The report came from a finance site called MoneyGeek. They looked at 225 cities and the deadliest city in the United States is Fort Lauderdale. The most dangerous Florida cities for pedestrians are Pompano Beach which came in #8. West Palm Beach came in at #14, Miami is #15, and Tampa came in at #19. The study found that the majority of deaths happen at night.
Best Ways To Keep People Safe As Drivers
Drivers need to always be aware of people walking when driving. MoneyGeek says on their report, “It’s always safer to travel at slower speeds, especially in areas with pedestrian traffic. Lower speeds give drivers a better chance of avoiding pedestrians altogether. When it comes to surviving an accident, our analysis of pedestrian accident survival rates found that every 10 mph faster a car travels doubles a pedestrian’s chance of death.”
What To Do As A Pedestrians To Stay Safe
MoneyGeek has some great tip if you are walking where cars are to keep you safe. They say to use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever accessible. Also, to look left then look right and then look left again before crossing streets. Wear bright colors. Before stepping into an intersection you want to make eye contact with drivers. Over 7,500 people were killed by cars while they were walking in 2022. That is most since 1981.
