Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Back For A Limited Time
The Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday is back this weekend, but it is only for a limited time. It is a great time to buy supplies. The holiday will run from Saturday, August 26 to Friday, September 8. You will pay no sales tax on a bunch of items. This isn’t the first time this year that Florida Department of Revenue has put on this holiday. There was another one that was from May until June earlier this year.
What Items Are Tax Free
There are actually a lot of items that are tax free and some you wouldn’t think would be. Check out some of the items below and a full list can be found HERE.
- A portable generator used to provide light or communications or preserve food in the event of a power outage with a sales price of $3,000 or less
- A smoke detector or smoke alarm with a sales price of $70 or less
- A portable self-powered radio, two-way radio, or weather-band radio with a sales price of $50 or less
- A package of AA-cell, AAA-cell, C-cell, D-cell, 6- volt, or 9-volt batteries, excluding automobile and boat batteries, with a sales price of $50 or less
- Common household consumable items with a sales price of $30 or less. For purposes of this exemption, common household consumable items means: Laundry detergent and supplies (Powder, liquid, or pod detergent)
You will also be able to get a whole bunch of pet products tax free like food, pet carriers and leashes.
